Today, 30 March, 2025, is Vincent van Gogh’s birthday and the story goes that he wrote a letter to his brother, Theo, about painting a starry sky. He wrote, “This morning I saw the countryside from my window a long time before sunrise with nothing but the morning star, which looked very big.”

Art historians believe that the brightest star next to the cypress tree in the painting was the morning star he spoke of, also known as the Planet Venus. This theory was backed by astronomy and the letter to his brother.
